The Montana Legal Services Association AmeriCorps*VISTA
Project assigns VISTA members across the state to work in one of the
following types of service areas:
Asset Development
The MLSA Asset Development Projects utilize VISTA members to expand the
capacity of community organizations to develop wealth creation
strategies for Montanans living in poverty. The overall goal of this
project is to develop innovative programs that increase asset wealth
among low-income Montanans.
Domestic Violence
The MLSA Domestic Violence VISTA Project utilizes VISTA members to
expand the capacity of domestic violence service providers in Montana to
assist low-income victims of domestic violence. Through the Domestic
Violence Project, the VISTA members work with local communities on
resource development, program design, community education and outreach.
This project is in collaboration with the Montana Coalition Against
Domestic and Sexual Violence.
Poverty Law
The MLSA Poverty Law VISTA Projects maintain MLSA's emphasis on
addressing the legal needs of Montana's low-income population. MLSA
utilized VISTA volunteers to increase its capacity for the delivery of
services to low-income individuals in Montana, whether through the
development of community education materials, the recruitment of pro
bono attorneys or the expansion of resources available to MLSA. MLSA
also uses VISTA members to increase the capacity of the court system to
provide access to justice for Montanans in poverty. The Poverty Law
Projects are MLSA's proactive approach to empowering Montanans to
prevent the legal problems that keep Montana's low-income population in
poverty.
